Our First Designed iOS App Launches - Pick up Game
October 06, 2011
Pretty exciting email hit my inbox this morning — a quick little App I submitted last week has hit the App Store, worldwide this morning.
Download Pick up Game

It’s free (as of writing, though I don’t plan to charge for it soon) and very basic. I was playing Basketball with some friends recently and we were all keeping score in our heads. I figured there had to be a better way. Since my iPhone has replaced many of the functions I once required my brain to do it seemed obvious to make an app.
Pick up Game is written in HTML/CSS/JS and is compiled with the PhoneGap platform. Using PhoneGap was simple enough, compiling into an app not so much. But an educational experience overall. The finished app is not as snappy as something natively written in Objective-C, which has made me think about getting into proper iOS programming.
Really this whole process has been a good learning experience for the design challenges of touch. Now that the App is approved I will most likely redesign and recode the entire thing top to bottom, as is my typically obsessive behaviour.
Time to add iOS development to the ol’ resume…
