Running on Textpattern (Because we love it)
October 03, 2011
I’ve never met a CMS that I truly liked. For every CMS I’ve used the problem seems to land on either side of this coin:
WordPress seems to be the defacto CMS for the web, but I find its user interface appalling. The simple task of inserting a photo into an article is one long, multi-stepped process with far too many options along the way.
So what do I use for our website designs? Textpattern. Although not perfect, it is incredibly simple to install and setup. As well as simple to use for any client. There is the caveat that Textpattern’s admin side is also extremely limited, but then this is why it’s so simple.
The shame is waining support. Many references across the web feature outdated information or broken links. The plugin site is a mess. I’ve resorted to storing them locally incase they cannot be downloaded the next time I go looking. I’m also very wary to try new CMS’ for the fear that they’re a dime a dozen and may be unsupported in an instant.
Textpattern is used by many great designers like Jared Christensen and Jon Hicks but unfortunately it doesn’t get much buzz compared to other CMSs.
